Tom's Big Consolevania Celebration

CONSOLEVANIA TURNS 20:
ROBERT FLORENCE AND RYAN MACLEOD ON MAKING COMEDY OUT OF VIDEO GAMES

A big anniversary celebration by Tom Crowley

Friends, countrymen, Barry Burtons, it is my great pleasure to announce that I got to speak to the TEAM themselves, Scottish comedians Robert Florence and Ryan Macleod, about their twenty-year-long homemade sketch comedy/mix tape/video art installation/games review show Consolevania for the British Comedy Guide.

As you’ll read, the show means a lot to me and has done since I was a nipper, when it was the first gasp I got of the Internet allowing comedians to make their own work and distribute it. It like a fire under me that you can easily trace through my career to date, right up to Crowley Time. I felt a duty to mark the occasion of its 20th Anniversary and I’m very grateful to Mark from the British Comedy Guide for letting me go big on this celebratory article. I’m also very grateful to Rab and Ryan for sharing their time and their fascinating insights into their experiences of making the show.

Whether you’re familiar with the show or not, whether you play video games or not, if you’ve got any interest in homemade comedy, online publishing or the pre-YouTube days of video making, I implore you to read the article by clicking that button above. It’s a true labour of love. Love and Fray Bentos pies. Support your independents!
