Victoriocity Season 3 Begins
VICTORIOCITY SEASON 3:
TRUTH & CLAW
Starring Tom Crowley as Inspector Archibald Fleet
Episode 1 out now!
After a long wait, we’re going back to Even Greater London for another Fleet-Entwhistle investigation! Victoriocity is the brainchild of Jen and Chris Sugden, a married couple of geniuses from Oxford. The show follows resurrected former Scotland Yard detective Archibald Fleet, and Clara Entwhistle, an aspiring journalist from a mysterious land from beyond the border forest known as Yorkshire, who end up thrown together into a series of thrilling and comic mysteries in an alternate, technologically-advanced 1880s London. In this third series, we see Fleet and Entwhistle getting used to life as a private detective partnership while the city is rattled by a spate of brutal murders, giving rise to rumours of a mysterious, monstrous ‘Beast’. Fleet doesn’t believe in ghosts and ghouls, only horrible, horrible people and the awful things they do. Clara isn’t so certain. But Scotland Yard is baffled and the public want answers, so Fleet-Entwhistle Private Investigations have no choice but to roll up their sleeves and get gumshoeing.
I have always counted myself incredibly lucky to be involved in Victoriocity in any capacity, let alone getting to play Archibald Fleet. Having met Jen and Chris at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2015, I knew that I had found some Friends For Life™ but little did I realise I’d met some future serial employers as well. This third season consolidates the brilliant, vivid world they’ve created and sees the return of a shedload of much-loved characters, as well as introducing a few more for good measure. In particular, this season sees the introduction of new characters played by Sarah Bunnell-Pyper (fourth from left, above) and Pip Gladwin (fourth from right, above) who rank among the funniest and most memorable the series has ever seen, alongside the usual host of hilarious guest meddlers, aggressors and standing-in-the-wayers. This may well be the best series of Victoriocity yet, so if you’re a fan of the show, what are you waiting for? Download Episode 1: The Beast on your podcast app today! If you’re not yet a fan, why not go back to the very first episode, Even Greater London and prepare yourself to fall in love with a huge nasty city.
This season is also extra-special because it coincides with the publication of the first ever Victoriocity novel! High Vaultage, coming out from Gollancz on the 14th March, is a brand new original adventure for Fleet-Entwhistle, like an entire bonus series of the show! I have read it, and I can tell you that it contains all the wit, excitement and imagination of the audio version, plus the depth and density permitted by the prose medium. If you love Victoriocity, you would be a fool, a fool and a silly nit, to pass up the chance to buy this book and delve even deeper into the murky, electrified waters of Even Greater London. Why would you do that? Why would you pass that up? No, exactly, you wouldn’t so, get the book pre-ordered from the link below and prepare to experience Word Bliss!
