No, I can’t really believe it either. Against some incredibly stiff competition, including The Romesh Ranganathan Show and Birthday Girls’ House Party, my sketch and character comedy and etc. podcast Crowley Time won the big award at last night’s Golden Lobes. Here is my video (made hurriedly in a hotel room this morning) thanking all the relevant folks!
It’s worth saying again in black and white, though, I’m enormously grateful to the people who made the decision! Crowley Time is not a huge juggernaut of a show in terms of download numbers, nor is it a magnet for advertising money and brand cross-promotion. It’s a silly sketch show made with a lot of love and care by one person, me, Tom Crowley, who mainly makes it because he’s mad and thinks that radio comedy is a good thing that should exist. And, probably moreso, to be honest, because he really loves making it. And he does! I mean, I do! I started this thing about seven and a half years ago and thanks to the contributions of my guests, the help of my friends and a lot of fast learning on my part, I think it’s getting better and better and I enjoy putting it together more and more.
So, thusly encouraged, I’ll get back to making it! I hope you’ve given it a go and that you’ve enjoyed it. If you never have, I’m glad to report that there’s a recent Best Of episode you can try as a sampler and the episode just before that was when I presented my biggest guest star yet, Paul F Tompkins. But because it’s sketches and the like, you can more-or-less jump in wherever you like and you’ll get the idea! You might not want to start with Madrigal in Margate Part 2 though, that would seem an eccentric choice. I mean, it’s halfway through the story, obviously. But hey, it’s up to you!
Thanks to all the Crowleypals who’ve stuck with me throughout the years and as ever, I wish you all the eggs and hope that you will keep it squeaky. Here’s to forty-three more episodes of this award-winning podcast! Ooh, that felt good.
