The Lentil Sorters, back on BBC Sounds
The Lentil Sorters, the fantastic Radio 4 sitcom from 2015 by Jack Bernhardt, is currently being rebroadcast on BBC Radio 4Extra, and as such is now available on BBC Sounds! But listen quick, as each episode is only available for 30 days, and as such, you only have until the 14th March 2020 to hear the whole thing.
As well as the incredible main cast you can see above (L to R, Julia Deakin, Vincent Franklin, Rebekah Staton and Kieran Hodgson), you can also hear me in Episodes 3 and 4, providing Additional Voices (ie., silly characters who only turn up for a few lines each). Episode 3 can be heard HERE and Episode 4 will also be available on Sounds after its broadcast at 7am on Friday 7th March.
As most people know, Jack Bernhardt and I are former sketch colleagues, having performed together for years in the group Sad Faces. He is also a lovely boy and I love him and I have known him since I was eight. Jack netting this Radio 4 commission was a dream come true, and he and producer David Tyler lavished suitable love on the production. Listening back to it now, it’s incredibly confident, setting its comedy stall out with astonishing clarity within the first two minutes, and it uncannily predicts the post-Brexit world where we’ve had enough of experts and hapless analysts are constantly trying to use opinion polls to understand a relentlessly self-defeating populace to very little effect.
More importantly, it’s a high-quality original radio sitcom, and those are always deserving of your attention. Make sure to listen to The Lentil Sorters before it vanishes into the ether! If you don’t manage to catch it before it drops off the edge of BBC Sounds, then there’s a commercial release downloadable from iTunes and Audible via the production company’s website:
