Yes, it’s true, acclaimed Radio 4 afterlife odyssey ReincarNathan is coming to an end. The fourth and final series has just begun airing, at 6:30pm on Wednesdays, and I’m overjoyed to tell you that you can hear me in it! I appear as a disgusting exploitative music manager in the first episode of the new series, entitled Rat, and also in the third and final episode, Elysium, airing next week. Who do I play in Elysium, you ask? That would be telling. Suffice to say that the whole episode brings its lead, deceased appalling pop star Nathan Blakely, to the end of his long journey with all the danger, excitement and hilarity you’ve come to expect.

It was a thrill to be asked to perform in ReincarNathan as it’s a show I’ve already listened to and loved! I’m so in awe of how Daniel Rigby as the lead is able to ground all of the show’s mad imagery and eccentric concepts around his central performance, like a load of space debris whirling around Saturn. The scripts are just as dense, rich and funny as ever, and it was a treat to get to bring the show home.

If you’ve never heard it, then get to work! ReincarNathan tells the story of Nathan Blakely, a pop star who is a terrible person and then dies. However, it turns out that reincarnation is real, and Nathan soon finds out that if he’s ever going to reach his final rest, he must battle his way up the spiritual food chain, becoming various creatures including a mayfly, an eel and a space hamster, attempting to demonstrate virtue and worthiness, as far as an eel is able to do that. On this journey he is aided by his spiritual advisor (Diane Morgan and later, Ashley McGuire) and between the two of them they try to overcome Nathan’s innate selfishness, arrogance and cowardice and deliver him to the next plane of existence.
